A French doctor has revealed his secret: he will sell over-the-counter erectile dysfunction drugs at a price of $8 per pill.
The drug used to treat erectile dysfunction has been banned in the European Union.
In a statement, the doctor, Martin Clavelli, said he had purchased the drug over-the-counter at a pharmacy in France.
The drug is sold in the UK under the name Viagra.
He was not the first person to buy the drug.
French customs officials said yesterday they had seized four fake pills and two tablets of sildenafil, sold under the name Viagra.
The pills were meant to be an erectile dysfunction drug.
Sildenafil, which is made by the drugmaker Eli Lilly, has been available without a prescription in the US since 2010.
Viagra was the first drug to go on the market in the US, but the US company lost patent protection in 2013, causing a scandal for the drug maker.
A spokesperson for Eli Lilly, which makes Viagra, said: "This story was a result of a search of our database which has revealed the identity and address of the US-based pharmaceutical company that has been operating illegally in the US and Europe since 2010 and is the subject of investigation.
“This was not the first time the drug has been in the US and Europe, and the pharmaceutical companies have used their influence to market the drug in the EU and Latin America.
“Our customers will know our secret and will be embarrassed if they think they are doing something wrong,” said Mr Clavelli.
The fake pills were found in the US and Europe, and the US has been the subject of a scandal involving fake online pharmacies.
“Our customer service team is currently working hard to help customers find a way to access this product,” said Dr Paul Huxley, the centre-stage adviser on the sale of the drug.
He added that he was also investigating the sale of fake Viagra, which he said was “very dangerous”.
Dr Huxley said: "It is important to know that buying a medication online without a prescription is illegal in the EU, and it is illegal to sell a prescription drug without a prescription in the EU.
"In some European countries, the internet is available, but in some other countries it is not.
"It is illegal to buy any medication without a prescription in the European Union, as well as in some countries, and in some other countries, as well.
“The illegal sale of Viagra is also illegal in the UK, as is the sale of the drug in other countries.
“A doctor in France may not prescribe Viagra for his patients and he could face legal action in the EU, which is why we are investigating this matter further.”
VIDEOA man who bought the drug from a French pharmacy in France has been sentenced to up to three years in prison.
Mr Huxley said: “The sale of Viagra and other erectile dysfunction drugs, which are marketed to treat erectile dysfunction, is a very dangerous practice and it is illegal in the European Union.”
The man, who is from the Netherlands, was found guilty of an offence of buying an impotence drug from a French pharmacy. The judge, who also presided over the case, had ordered that his arrest was cancelled.
Mr Huxley said: “Our investigation shows that the illegal sale of these drugs is in breach of the EU law.
“The sale of medicines which are marketed to treat erectile dysfunction is illegal in the EU and we are taking these measures to protect the public.
“We believe that there is a need to address this problem and to find a way to access the drug.
